What is Social Capital?
Social capital refers to the relationships, trust networks, and values developed between people who take the time to get to know each other, help each other and work to improve their communities. It generates when people are going about the business of being neighbors. It develops over time as people get to know each other and connect, generating more social capital. Places with high social capital have a low crime rate, and neighbors are more likely to intervene before a crime is committed. The safety of a community is closely related to its social capital. In such places, people know, trust, and care for each other and the place they live, making it an ideal place to live. Social capital is more valuable than high finances.
